About Art-Dance Theater Function

Art-Dance Theater Function is seeking out a dreation of mysterious space in the motif of "contour" and "light and shadow". As the body expression represents both body and spirit, "dancer" is referred to as "performer", "dance" as "body expression", respectively.

"Living spirit (metempsychosis)" is taken up as a theme. The motion on the basis of an oriental atmosphere, which is powerful, sophisticated and tense up to fingertips, changes in color and shape mysteriously like a kaleidoscope.

"Company" was founded in 1994 headed up by Kimitaka Shibahara and Mami Yokoyama.

Not a few performances have been provided in Japan and received very high acclaim. Starting by Avignon Theater Festival in 2000, which is the first performance in foreign countries, Company started making a great leap forward internationally. Domestic and foreign madia pays attention to and takes up Company's ambitious performances in foreign countries.

Kimitaka Shibahara

Performing Experience:
Since the age of 8, he had appeared on many stages as a member of "Kuroshio-Daiko" supervised by his father.
In 1987, he won a prize at the Dance Festival in Kobe. He had several lessons at the Steps in N.Y., B.D.C., etc.
In 1994, He and Mami Yokoyama established Art-Dance Theater Function.

Mami Yokoyama

Performing Experience:
She started Jazz Dance at the age of 13 (under Ms. Akiko Matsui, ex-SKD). She entered Tokyo Play House attached to Actors Promotion, where she started studying drama and Japanesedance. She flies to N.Y. periodically for the lesson at Martha Graham Studio, Steps, etc.
In 1994, Mr. Kimitaka Shibahara and she established Art-Dance Theater Function.
